Beast was and is not
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. Revelation 17:8
Or
The beast (carnal ego) that thou sawest was (past tense), and is not (doesn’t exist); and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit (no foundation to stand upon), and go into perdition (destruction): and they that dwell ON the earth (lived for their affections and lusts) shall wonder, whose names (false nature/not His) were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
See, for John the beast that he saw within himself was and is not for John had on the mind of Christ and believed in the nature (name) of Christ. See the nature (name) of Christ is the Word of life that is the Father!
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us; ) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:1-3
Them that did not believe because they loved to please the lust of the earth will behold in wonder because the nature of the beast is NOT the nature (name) of Christ. So they shall see (behold) the beast that was (past tense), and is not (doesn’t exist) does exist IN them (yet is).
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name (nature) of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another (nature), as he gave us commandment. 1 John 3:23
So I MUST know who I am in Christ and believe who I am in Christ to be saved from who I was (beast).” For I know I am not saved by confessing some literal name but I am saved for He has done the work in His Son for me to be saved.
